I have to pay the Juilliard tuition bill.
It was due a couple weeks ago but there was a delay in getting Daya's loans to post, something on their end. All is ok. The system finally updated.
There is a payment link in my Juilliard portal (which is a terrible awful system and makes absolutely no sense, AND it's ugly) but it says I have to be authorized by my student in their Nelnet portal, whatever the fuck that means.
I sent Daya a screenshot so she could figure it out.
She went to the student accounts people, who said it isn't necessary and they emailed me a link to just pay.
I filled out all the fields- student name and ID, emails, credit card info, everything.
And then I got this confirmation screen at the very end:
WHAT
THE
FUCK
Are they seriously wanting to charge me $112 to pay the tuition bill online?
What a fucking joke, college is such a racket.
Such a scam and I do NOT like being scammed.
This is part of what I mean by all those hidden surprise child expenses that you don't know about in advance and can't possibly plan for that just wreck you financially. And then when you protest them everyone thinks you're an asshole. Well, *I* care about making good financial choices with MY finances even if no one else does. It's astounding how casual other people are with money that isn't theirs.
Now that Daya is out of childhood, all that crap is DONE. I'm DONE with being on the hook for things I don't even know I'm on the hook for, or being essentially forced into doing things financially that I don't want to because they are tied to other situations, or suddenly imposed on me by school etc.
And if you think just saying no works all the time (I have in fact said no many times), you're probably not a parent and don't get that you don't get it so fuck off.
I am not one of those elite 1%ers in the dance world and I do care about a $112 transaction fee, that makes a difference to me! What a fucking waste.
This is such a dumb stupid scammy fee, I absolutely REFUSE to pay it.
It is a percentage of the entire transaction fee- so the more you have to pay the higher the transaction fee is.
Incredible.
So I wrote a check.
A nice old-school personal check, because I still have those.
I sent it over with Daya, and it was fine.
I would have literally brought the exact transaction amount over there myself in person in cash if I had to. At least they do take a personal check.
Old-school for the win! Avoid dumb scammy fees!
