Move|NYC Performance

Daya was off from school this week but she didn't have any kind of break.
I let her take last Friday off school so she could have one day to do nothing, at least until she had dance in the evening.

Monday she had rehearsals all day with Manhattan Youth Ballet, and the rest of the week she had an intensive with Move|NYC, her dance mentoring program. They performed tonight and it was wonderful.

She has more performances in a few weeks with Manhattan Youth Ballet.

Islamic Art at The Met

After the Disney exhibit we went and hung out in the Islamic wing, which is always a wonderful place to be. It's serene and relaxing and there are many manuscript pages.

Back at The Met- Disney Exhibit

Kedrin, Kim, Janett and I went back to The Met today...and I wanted to go through the Disney exhibit again.  It really was excellent.  They have original Eyvind Earle paintings which are astounding in-person.

All the background art was astounding to be honest.

One of my favorite paintings is not in the catalog which is a bummer.
Also, I don't want to spend $50 on the catalog so I'm going to wait to get it later at a much lower price.
A few super-sneaky pictures...they are not great but I had to be careful.

My friends who were supposed to help me be sneaky were not very good at the "sneaky" part and kept asking (not quietly) if I got my photo yet...... no one caught me but next time I'm not telling anyone.

This is a Cinderella background in gouache.

Detail from an Eyvind Earle painting.

Style sheet for Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast... NO TOILET HANDS!

This painting of the cathedral forest is from Fantasia and isn't in the catalog.
This is the one I wanted to get a picture of.

The stained glass scene that opens Beauty and the Beast is in.... marker.

Roosevelt Island Again

There is a really odd-looking spot on Roosevelt Island that I thought would be fun to paint.
I worked small again today, 6x8. I'm feeling tired today and didn't want to be out too long.

These amazing clouds disappeared about 15 minutes into the painting!

The Met- Saturday Night

I met up with my museum friends tonight after painting and we went to the Met.
The Disney show is on and I really wanted to see it.  It was really, really good and I want to go back.

Unfortunately, and this is really stupid, they don't allow photography but I'm going to go back a second time and sneak some.  The guards don't seem to be particularly attentive to it.

The sculpture court is so nice at night.

Aside from the Disney show we mostly sat in the Temple of Dendur and talked.

Roosevelt Island Smallpox Hospital

This weekend all the trains are running local in both directions on the F line.
Which means it's particularly easy to get to Roosevelt Island, so that's the weekend plan.

Today I went back to the old smallpox hospital.
I wanted to work small, so this is a 6x8. It's something a little different.
I like working with different colors within the grey.

Last time I painted the smallpox hospital it was Spring, and everything looked completely different.

Big O works at the parks department at the South tip of the island and he brought me three packs of hand warmers!

LaGuardia Dance Ensemble Performance

Daya performed tonight for a cancer benefit.
She's part of the LaGuardia Dance Ensemble, which is a select group of LaGuardia dancers.
They only take 15 kids and it is audition-based.

Here she is after the show right before we left. She was amazing and I am very proud of her.

Studio Progress

I got a LOT done in the studio clean-out.
I destroyed and discarded many, many old paintings.

For the ones I am keeping, some will go back on the wall but most will go into storage.

The top of my shelving is storage for things that should actually be stored.

Isis supervised the whole process.

The Cloisters in the Snow

We got SNOW!!
The pretty kind of snow!

I met up with Kedrin, Bitz, Kim, and Grace at The Cloisters and we had a lovely day.
I took a lot of pictures because I always do.

I painted over to the right yesterday in this photo.

This sheep is my new pet; I love him.

This doesn't photograph well, but the panes of class are all pale multicolor tints.

This is a fine example of medieval parenting.

I want to see the other pages in this book!!
