Solstice

In celebration of the summer solstice, and also in preparation to start her Alvin Ailey intensive on Monday, Daya went to the emergency room in a neck brace.

She fell off a swing at the playground and landed on her head.

Since it was a head injury and her neck was hurting, we had to go to the hospital in an ambulance.

Not only was I really scared, I was really angry because I know she was likely doing something a little dumb.
I wasn't there so I didn't see it happen.

And it is fine that she was at the playground on her own, she always is.
Thankfully she was right across the street from Eva, and she went right there.

Daya has so much happening right now, and to mess it all up by falling off a damn swing.........

In the hospital...... after the doctor did an exam and Daya could turn her neck with no pain, and she said she was starting to feel better, I stopped being worried.  In fact, she made a complete recovery in the four hours we were stuck in the hospital.  They didn't even call for an xray or any scans.

Daya got very, very lucky and I made sure she knew it.
While waiting to be released, we got bored.

Then they made me pay $191.64 and we left.

Seriously, VERY LAST THING I need right now.

This has been such a hard year.

But I am intensely relieved Daya is fine.

  1. Damn the luck. It always happens when you least need it. Hopefully a lesson learned.
