Brooklyn Rose, Egg Tempera

I have been working on this painting in class for about a month or so.

A nice floral for spring.

I took the reference 10 years ago in the rose garden at Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.

This painting had to be finished today because this is my last day of class.  I'm not doing egg tempera class again until September. May is the last month for class, and I have to miss a few weekends so it's not worth paying for the month.

Plus I'm at a point where I need a break.

I forgot how many hours this took,

Initially I was going to do a border over the gold, but I never did decide what and I ran out of time.  Doug said it doesn't need more anyhow.... but in my mind it will still feel a little incomplete.

I did manage to absolutely destroy the background (it was bad) and do an extreme amount of repair and damage control. This repair took about 5 hours and is why there is no border decoration.
